There is a time for everything,
and a season for every activity under heaven:
a time to be born and a time to die,
a time to plant and a time to uproot,
a time to kill and a time to heal,
a time to tear down and a time to build,
a time to weep and a time to laugh,
a time to mourn and a time to dance,
a time to scatter stones and a time to gather them,
a time to embrace and a time to refrain,
a time to search and a time to give up,
a time to keep and a time to throw away,
a time to tear and a time to mend,
a time to be silent and a time to speak,
a time to love and a time to hate,
a time for war and a time for peace.

The logs are all piled in the woodshed for winter heat, the fire in the stove is lit, the underground tubes are pouring hot air into the house, so why is our house so dog-gone COLD? I was out taking pictures this morning and chanced upon the culprit, Emma-stealing wood from the woodpile. Maybe she thinks wood is a big prize since we throw it around all the time. We ‘get wood’ all year round, cutting it, piling it, burning it…… wood, wood, wood. Maybe she has a little side business with the neighbors perhaps? I spooked her with my camera, so she decided to bury her hunk of prize wood somewhere out of my prying lens. Come spring we might find Emmas’ wood pile, but for now it is her secret.

Visual Poetry. How to attain these two words in my life? Ever since I can remember I have wanted to be a photographer. Something in images capture me and speak to some unknown part of me, my soul? I can feel an invisible part of me reaching out and wondering or receiving something of life from a photograph. More than a scene I might happen upon with my eye, a photograph tells a story, catches a mood, a longing. An unattainable goal for my life, a photographer. I want to ‘write with light’, I want to write visual poems.
If I ever have free time (ha), I love to go to my local Barnes and Noble, find a few books that catch my eye and sit down with a cup of coffee and choose which one I can’t live without. For a few months I have picked up, and reshelved a book titled ‘Visual Poetry’. Yesterday I bought it! OUCH! It set me back a few bucks, but, (buts always change things) I think I will take this book on a journey with me, I think this book will help me find my ‘eye’. Thanks Chris Orwig, for writing! My first favorite quote: NAIVE…..I will never let visual apathy set in. I want to see things anew. I want to dream big dreams and let my imagination loose. Learning to see requires that we become a bit quixotic, or naive. Someone who is naive is unlearned, unenlightened, and unconditioned. The Latin root for naive is nativus, which means native, rustic, innate and natural. I can’t think of a better way to approach the world. You could instead choose to follow some of the antonyms for the word naive: blase´, worldly, and refined. Yet that doesn’t sound much fun.
Isn’t that GREAT? Ha, ha! I can’t wait to read on, this is my new favorite book of the moment. I’m going to dig into this book, I’ll let you know how it goes. Who knows? Maybe even I can attain my dreams! But (there it is again), when you attain your dreams, than what………

Huge thanks to everyone who brought thier dogs to the Moose Lake City Park on July 4th.!! We had so much fun ‘shooting’ your dogs! What a beautiful day we had in the park and to meet all these fantastic dogs was an absolute blast! We hope you enjoyed yourself as much as we did, thanks for a great day!

Boston Mug Shots

Greetings from Boston! Yep, the DogSpeak girls have hit the road. We toured Boston the day we arrived and met some fine furry friends. We ran into many folks out with their furry companions enjoying a sunday afternoon.

This little guy (or gal, we never checked) was just tooo cute. Sitting outside a little market, waiting for his walking buddy. We left our business card in his collar, hoping that his 2 legged companion might contact us. We would sure like to know this ones name and breed.

Say hello to Scout. A handsome lab with just a tinge of mischievness in his eye. Scouts people were ever so delightful, we could tell this was a tight group. We ducked in here for an afternoon caffiene fix and met them.

A couple of Scouts favorite pastimes, hanging out with his walking buddy and his green ball. Just having it in his mouth is satisfying. Isn’t he just the picture of contentment?

Ralphy! What a face! I love this guy.

This couple was just waiting for some of their 2 legged companions treat. You know they expected some and you know they were going to get some too! I give them the award for best grooming.

Life is a Beach

The beach on a warm spring day brings out all kinds of folks. This gentlemans name is Bob, and his trusted companion is Bazzil. I met them on a stretch of the North Shore in beautiful northern Minnesota. As it turns out, Bob is also an avid photog guy, but he likes taking pictures of unsuspecting couples cozing up. Bob and Bazzil walked the beach for hours scoping out photo ops until finally Bazzil had had enough and laid down for a dog nap. Bob says that Bazzil has a nose for photo ops, and he usually leads. Good hunting Bob and Bazzil!

Life with 5 dogs

My husband, Mark, asked me why we have 5 dogs. I said it was because we only had 2 kids, which seamed to make sense to him and the question has never come up again. But really, why do we keep dogs? For us they are a never ending source of amusement. Each of our dogs has a distinct personality all it’s own, and each have had life experiences that have shaped it’s character. I picked up Mi- Mi and Irene from what some people would call a puppy mill, from a guy that bred Rat Terriors and Blue Tick Hounds.

My sister-in-law, 2 neices, and I traveled 5 hours one hot August day to pick up a pup that I intended to be a birthday present for my niece. It was a hot day outside, which made the barn that the dogs were in stifling hot-and stinky! We followed, as the breeder meandered to an area in the barn that had been penned off for dogs. My niece, Hayley, stood at the edge of the pen peering into it and eyed her puppy, a quiet little thing sitting in the back of the pen. That was Mi-Mi, she was trying not to be noticed by the other dogs, I think. There were so many dogs packed in such a small place, it must have been a rough place to exist. My other niece, Jena, fell in love with a funny looking, whining, barking, spinning, bull legged oddity. I wasn’t quite sure I wanted to give into this one, that little dog was strange.

My niece won, we now have Irene.

I traveled to that place 5 years ago to pick up a gift for my niece, I left with 2 little dogs that have crawled into, and curled up in, my heart forever.

Mi-Mi is quiet and wise, she does not beg for attention. She is wary, observant and the queen of our house. Mi-Mi is a show quality Rat Terrior, in looks and attitude.

Irene! A never ending source of comedy at our house. She would be lost without her little sis, Mi-Mi. She spins in circles when she is excited, which is particularly funny on ice! When she wants to come in she gets up on her hind legs and throws her body at the door. She does everything at full force, including loving her humans.
